Prototype One PERANAKAN MUSIC TILES
Learning the Textures of Tile with Sound

In the 1900s, ceramic wall tiles were frequently seen in Peranakan houses. This prevalence in their use lead to it being coined as the term "Peranakan Tiles". These tiles have varying origins, ranging from Victorian to Japanese roots. Conventionally, learning about these textures often relies on the sense of sight or touch. However, what if we can also use sound to help us learn these textures more effectively?

Make your own Music

Place the different tile pieces to make your own unique tile design, while simultaneously creating your own music composition. There can be a total of 5 different beats playing at once, all playing harmoniously as they are synthesized on the same base rhythm.

Inspired by the Peranakans

Each different audio beat is synthesized to mimic the different instruments used in the Peranakan culture. Some beats mimic the Rebana drum, some resembles the Gambang, while others resemble the Guitar.
