Baba Malay is a unique cultural language belonging to the Peranakans. It consists of a mix of the Hokkien and Malay languages. However, It is now vulnerable in today's globalized world as English takes precedence. This interactive interface aims to teach participants words in the Baba Malay language in the context of Peranakan Kuehs. Participants pair Language Tiles to form a word that describes a Kueh, where its digital 3D representation appears on screen.
Participants can use one hand to rotate the 3D model, while the other hand can select specific parts of the model to dissect and learn more about.
The blue tiles represent Peranakan kuehs with roots in the malay culture, while the orange tiles represent those that originated from the Chinese. Each set of tiles informs you of their culture at a deeper level.
